Rudy DeSouza has been a Medical Technician with DispatchHealth in Orlando since September 2022. “My favorite part of my job is being able to take medical care to patients who can’t leave their homes. We see a lot of very sick patients in our market and the feeling of making a difference is very rewarding,” says Rudy.
Rudy’s authentic care for people in need reaches far beyond his patients at DispatchHealth, though – all the way to Haiti. He is a founding member and Development Director of Holding Hands, a non-profit institution aiming to contribute to the formation of a more fraternal and just society. Their current focus is on supporting pregnant women and combating child malnutrition in Haiti, in addition to offering support to Brazilian children with Epidermolysis Bullosa.
“We first went to Haiti in 2018 to drop of a few bags of donations,” said Rudy. “What we saw there was heartbreaking and made us realize how much we have to be thankful for and how much we can do for those who don’t have much. We returned from the trip and decided to start a nonprofit. Holding Hands was born from the desire to show those in need that there are people who see them and care.”
After joining DispatchHealth, Rudy reached out to his new colleagues for donations of medical equipment and supplies to help further the work his non-profit was doing. Holding Hands co-founder and current board member Roosevelt Ramos said, “We view everything DispatchHealth has donated as very precious and essential for the work we do. Everything is being used to care for the most needy and the poorest of the Haitian community we serve. Everything we do is free of cost to those who benefit from the service. Your company has been a blessing for many! Thank you so much for standing with us.”
DispatchHealth takes great pride in the exceptional care provided by Rudy, both to his patients in the Orlando community and his unwavering commitment to Holding Hands after-hours. His care and dedication truly knows no borders. To learn more about Holding Hands, visit https://hhus.org/en.
